this is a book that gave me the confidence that if you give, give and give again the odds that something very good happens to you improve dramatically

The Go-Giver has sensitized me to my instinctive reaction to say "no thanks" when offered assistance in business and family settings. For example, my son and I were at a sporting goods store. I was admiring the quality of the Lance Armstrong T-shirts. He offered to buy me one.

My knee-jerk reaction was to say, "No thanks, I'll get it myself later." I caught myself in time, and allowed him to purchase it. We both felt good about the exchange. But, I wonder how many times in the past my desire to be the "giving parent" stole opportunities for him to be the "giving son."

Coincidentally, my son, at 29, is active in the hospitality industry and well-liked by his staff. He, too, credits The-Go-Giver for a lot of his recent success.

This book will enrichen your soul! I own a tiny husband and wife carpet cleaning business and was servicing an elderly client. The Mrs. is handicapped, she can't sand straighter than a 90 degree bend at her waist. The Mr. is legally blind. They live in a small 2 bedroom assisted living home about 45 minutes away from our home. They needed help! It took us more time to organize their home than it did to do the actual carpet cleaning, I think we were there for about 3 hours. We had nothing else going on and really enjoyed just talking with them. We notice that they had stacks of family pictures framed up but none hanging on the walls. Two weeks later we visited them just to hang up some of their pictures for them. The elderly lady was crying because she couldn't believe someone would go out of their way like this for them. She said that she couldn't pay us, nor did we expect any money. What she did do was pray for us.
Now, I'm not a deeply religious man but I do believe in God! And I really believe in karma (what goes around, comes around). About two weeks later we were at the annual dinner for our local Chamber of Commerce and we were awarded with the counties Small Business of the Year! God, Karma, what ever you believe is your choice, but helping out others is really for your benefit, not theirs. It is great to sleep in peace every night!
